Interpreting the Formula
1) Hype is born from Anticipation × Scarcity
Anticipation alone isn’t enough.
Scarcity alone isn’t enough.
But when anticipation and scarcity interact, hype starts to form.
The square root matters too: it implies diminishing returns.
Doubling the inputs doesn’t double the hype—meaning you can’t brute-force excitement. You have to engineer it carefully.
2) Risk amplifies hype (when it’s controlled)
Risk is added inside the square root:

Too little risk = boring

Too much risk = people disengage

Controlled risk = excitement
Risk can mean uncertainty, volatility, challenge, or even the gamble of chasing something rare. When it’s calculated, it creates energy.
3) Access is the ultimate regulator
Everything is divided by k (Access).

As access increases, hype decreases

As access decreases, hype explodes
This is the most important part of the equation:
Hype isn’t destroyed by lack of demand — it’s destroyed by excess access.
